About ME

Hello and Welcome — I’m Maria Sullivan
I’m a Licensed Clinical Social Worker practicing in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware, and the founder of Meaningful Mental Health. With more than 10 years of experience providing therapy to individuals across the lifespan, my mission is to help you navigate life’s challenges and move toward greater well-being — with compassion, insight, and meaningful connection every step of the way.
Throughout my career, I’ve had the privilege of working in diverse mental health settings, including outpatient therapy, addiction treatment, and community-based care. Early on, I provided case management and advocacy for individuals from all walks of life, helping them access resources and find support systems they didn’t know were available to them.
A pivotal moment in my journey was developing and implementing an evidence-based Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) program at a community mental health agency. DBT is a proven, skills-based approach that helps people learn to manage overwhelming emotions, cope with stress in healthier ways, build stronger relationships, and make meaningful life changes — even when past treatments haven’t felt effective. It has been shown to reduce self-harming behaviors, ease symptoms of anxiety and depression, and support people in feeling more balanced, resilient, and connected to themselves and others. My work with DBT continues to guide how I help clients create real, lasting shifts in their daily lives.
My practice is rooted in advanced training in DBT and CBT, along with a holistic perspective that honors your mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. While these approaches guide my work, I believe in meeting you where you are and tailoring therapy to fit your unique needs and goals. Whether that means integrating mindfulness, exploring a spiritual lens, or focusing on practical skills, we’ll find what works best for you. I’ve supported people through grief, trauma, anxiety, depression, addiction, life transitions, and more — always with a flexible, collaborative approach that helps you feel truly seen and understood.
I hold a Master’s in Social Work from the University of Pennsylvania, where I also gained valuable experience in medical and community-based settings — from crisis intervention in the ICU to supporting teens and adults with developmental disabilities. These early experiences shaped my commitment to offering comprehensive, inclusive, and compassionate care.
Since starting Meaningful Mental Health, I’ve loved creating a space that extends beyond therapy sessions. Through my website, blog, and resources, my goal is to help you feel supported and inspired — wherever you are on your journey.
If you’re ready to take the first step toward a life of greater meaning, resilience, and self-understanding, I invite you to reach out. Let’s walk this path together.
